Washington Institute for Advancement Co-Founder Christopher McKallagat
Christopher McKallagat co-founded the Washington Institute for Advancement (WIA) in 2013. Under his leadership as a strategic advisor, he led the startup social enterprise through several entrepreneurship and development projects throughout the Middle East and North Africa. Drawing on experience and contacts from his time in positions with the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs and the ICF International Strategic Communication and Marketing Division, Christopher McKallagat successfully launched projects such as the Abdul Latif Jameel Community Initiatives in Saudi Arabia. Following his time with WIA, he spent four years as a teaching assistant and adjunct professor at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
Mr. McKallagat studied anthropology as an undergraduate student at Princeton University. He completed several fellowships during this time, including the Princeton in Africa fellowship and the Princeton University George P. Shultz fellowship. Before his graduation in 2004, he published his thesis, Positive Realities: The Experience of Women with HIV/AIDS in Ghana.
Christopher McKallagat continued his education at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California, earning his master of arts in nonproliferation and terrorism studies in 2013.
